INTEGRATED BUILDERS COMPLETES 60,000 SQUARE FOOT RENOVATION FOR EVERGREEN
SOLAR, INC.
BRAINTREE, MA - Integrated Builders of Braintree recently completed a $6 million
rehab project at 259 Cedar Hill Street in Marlborough, Massachusetts. The renovation was
done for Evergreen Solar's corporate headquarters. The architectural firm, Margulies &
Associates, executed the facility's redesign.
The 60,000 square foot project included 40,000 square feet of manufacturing space
designed specifically to produce new solar panel technology. According to Integrated's
principal, Jay Dacey, the mechanical and electrical content of the project posed some
specific challenges. "Due to the technical nature of Evergreen Solar's ultimate use of
its headquarters, the construction was very mechanically oriented. The rehabilitation
required the construction of chillers for processed chilled water, compressed air,
vacuum lines, argon, nitrogen, hydrogen, amonia and silane pipe," said Dacey.
Evergreen Solar is a developer and manufacturer of photovoltaic (PV) modules - the
engines of solar electric systems - used in remote power and emerging grid-connected
markets. The PV modules produced by Evergreen Solar are distinctive in their appearance
because they incorporate proprietary crystalline silicon technology known as String
Ribbon. This technology enables an innovative approach to manufacturing dependable and
cost-effective PV modules.
